The Best Day Trip in Myrtle Beach

If you want to take a day trip while visiting Myrtle Beach, S.C., you can head south to Pawley’s Island and visit the famous Hammock Shops. You’ll find tons of great food — from a simple hotdog at the corner stand to a four star restaurant where you can eat inside, or in the summer you can brave the heat and sit outside over looking a small playground. The Hammock Shops offer a wide selection stores with toys, dresses, shoes, bags, local art, sporting goods, fishing items, beautiful jewelry and of course, the famous hammocks.

One of our favorite places is The Candy Cottage in the Pawley’s Island Mercantile shops. The Candy Cottage is a kid’s dream come true. There is barrel after barrel of candy and row upon row of jars filled with sweets. The candy is sold by the pound, so all you do is pick up a bag and fill it.  Since we only come once a year, my two children and my husband each fill up a bag with their favorite candies.  All in all, this year we walked out with over 4 lbs of candy. An insane amount, but we loved it!

  1. Hello Elizabeth,

My sister, Heather, and I own The Candy Cottage. I did a Google search today to try to find a Charleston newspaper article which mentioned our store, and I was thrilled to see your blog and the great pictures. So glad that you enjoyed the shop and thanks for the publicity and kind words.

    Sincerely,
    Tracy Summer
